Tips for running energy efficient businesses

Energy-saving options are very diverse and unique to each facility. However, some of the more common options are:

  • Lighting upgrades;
  • Improved air-conditioning operations;
  • Better control over operating hours (occupancy sensors, timers, etc.); and
  • Improving efficiency with regards to service delivery using, for example variable speed drives.

The list is endless and needs to be tailored to suit each individual facility. Savings can also vary widely from one facility to the next but a good rule of thumb is that an energy-saving of between 10% and 30% can be achieved by implementing measures that have a payback period of less than two years.
